Data and artificial intelligence (AI) for decision making

Abstract

Talk for a research group (semillero) at Universidad Nacional de Colombia (Palmira campus) on the role of data and artificial intelligence in decision making. It starts from Turing’s question “can machines think?”, the types of information and the V’s of data (volume, variety, velocity, veracity), and introduces AI subfields, machine learning and feature engineering. It shows how AI addresses prediction, pattern recognition, optimization and automation problems, compares open- and closed-source models, and reviews tools (Python, R, Julia, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras), free software, open data and learning resources.
