Big data and artificial intelligence applied to animal nutrition

Abstract

Introductory talk on big data and artificial intelligence and their application to animal nutrition. It covers definitions of big data (IEEE) and AI (European Commission), data science and the subdomains of AI, along with figures from the AI at Work Is Here report on adoption, concerns and a possible shift in work paradigms. It then reviews AI applications in agriculture and livestock, animal welfare, feed formulation and decision support systems, based on recent literature. It closes with an applied example: an interactive Quarto/Shiny dashboard built from Feedipedia data collected through web scraping with R.
